DESIGN CHALLENGE
Design a mobile app in Figma to track an element of a user’s life they wish to change. Consider how data will be collected and how you might visualize the data so progress is recognized. Is this a measurement that encourages doing more or less of something, or is simply doing it enough?
SOLUTION
Crocheting is one of my hobbies and there is a growing community of crocheters and knitters around the world. I created the hypothetical app “Yarn Basket” as an easy tool for crocheters and knitters to stay organized and track their progress, which will help them have more enjoyment in their hobby. Each page in the “Projects” tab provides information about your progress. The “Counter” tab tracks your progress and speed by counting your completed rows. The “Stash” tab keeps track of your yarn collection. These and other features of the app are designed to keep everything you need for your projects organized in one place.
app screens
Each page in the “Projects” tab provides information about your completed projects and WIPs (works in progress) so that none of them get forgotten, especially when you’re working on multiple at a time.
On each project’s page, you can see stats about how much time you’ve spent on the project so far, how much more you have to go, and your average time spent on it in the week/month/year.
The “Counter” tab helps mark your place in a project when you pause working by counting the rows you have completed and how much time they took to complete. This is one way that the app tracks your progress and speed. Then you can add the progress you’ve tracked with the counter to a specific project. You can also manually input which row your are on in the project if you don’t wish to use the counter.
